Our Story

JAVIER & LEAH
LEAH & JAVIER

Casually scrolling through the internet, we came across a video on Smithfield farms--one of the largest pork manufacturers in the US. The 30 second video had me in tears and forever changed the way we viewed food. The two of us were saddened by the truth of what was going on in meat factories. We wanted to do something about it. Thus, we started our journey to veganism.
Javier and I began by going on a whole-food plant-based diet but we failed in maintaining the lifestyle. We kept making excuses that would allow us to go back to eating the way we were accustomed to. However, we couldn't close our minds to what was going on behind closed doors. We continued to watch more videos, moving on to documentaries, and following up with further research. Our passion was reignited and we committed to our journey. We found that if we eat like we did as omnivores, we’d have no excuse to ever crave animal products again. And so we began to cultivate a new way of viewing the foods we ate, how we made them, and how we could share what we created.

Thus: HapPea Vegan Eats was born! We knew the only way to convince others to lead a cruelty free way of life was to show them that they never have to compromise flavor and can still enjoy the comfort foods we love. Every recipe developed, every plate purchased, every meal served has become an opportunity to save the planet and the animals and the health of our loved ones that reside in it.

Our mission is to satisfy everyone with delicious, hearty, vegan cuisine. Our pure love and passion for animals is the biggest ingredient you will taste in our food. We want all to know that you do not have to compromise flavor for the love of animals!

We began this journey in 2016 and found that social media was our strongest ally in bringing awareness to what the meat and dairy industry doesn’t want the public to know: how our food gets to our plates. With the help of social media, we strengthened our voice and promoted the beautiful lifestyle of veganism and the delicious alternatives out there for everyone!

In June of 2018 we took our next big steps and opened as part of a co-op. However, with the love and support of all our amazing customers, we’ve outgrown our space. We need our own venue to help push our mission of providing to our vegan eats in larger volumes. We currently only offer our made to order items at markets and pop-ups, but our goal is to offer a full menu, 5-6 days a week.

To make this happen, we have decided to take the next step in our journey. We will be launching a Kickstarter and would appreciate the continued support of all our friends and animal lovers alike and hope all who have read this will join us!
